Travel Nannies Help with many things

Caring for the children

Your traveling nanny will care for your children day and night.  Late dinners with friends or clients, your nanny will be with your child until you have released them to do otherwise. Whether its a vacation or you are traveling for work, your nanny will keep your child happy, engaged in learning and fun, fed, and making sure naps and bedtime are on a schedule.

Household duties of a Traveling Nanny

Your nanny will do anything child related. Child’s laundry, dishes, clean up the play area, washing sheets, sterilizing bottles, and taking diaper pale out to trash. Most nannies are more than willing to do other light household chores. Discuss with your nanny ahead of time to have a clear understanding of what is expected from your nanny.

Errands

You are either busy playing, or working on your traveling adventure. No need to worry. Your nanny will keep track when diapers are running low or milk needs to be picked up. Your nanny will do light grocery shopping and help keep everything stocked for your child to thrive and stay healthy. Most parents provide a credit card or cash for the nanny to spend on play dates, milk, or other miscellaneous items the home or child may need. Please keep in mind you will have to pay for the transportation for your nanny and the children to take a cab, bus or subway to activities or store.

Paying your Nanny while traveling

Every nanny will be different but majority of traveling nannies have a similar request as follows:

Paying for the travel of the nanny (plane ticket, baggage fees, cabs, etc.)

Hotel room. Discuss with your nanny before you travel what the room situation will be. Nannies will request to have their own room. If you are in a house or a hotel, keep your nannies privacy a priority. Traveling many days with a family can be draining and they need down time as well.

Hourly fee

If you are leaving your child with the nanny for the night your nanny will request half the pay while sleeping. For example: If you pay your nanny $18 hourly, $9 hourly is expected while she is watching over them while sleeping. If your baby wakes in the middle of the night, it will either be the full $18 or  may be more for newborn or sleep training infants.

You will be expected to pay for the hours of travel. If its a 3 hour flight expect to pay for the hourly rate of 3 hours and give or take an hour at the airport. If she is helping get you on the plane, and playing with kiddos, she is working.

Things to keep in mind

Traveling is tiring in itself, add kiddos and unpacking, activities, etc. It adds up. Some parents and kids get cranky when traveling. Your nanny is trying their best to keep everyone happy. Please make sure your nanny does get a couple hours to themselves to sightsee or relax as well.

Nannies become family in most cases. If the family is going out to dinner and you want the nanny to join, invite them out. They may love to be included or maybe they want to relax. If its a non work outing, don’t expect to pay, but make sure you and the nanny are on the same page.

Food

Expect to pay for your nannies food, unless otherwise discussed. If your nanny has a special diet they entertain, most nannies would be happy to shop for themselves if they can get their hands on food they enjoy. Eating out with the kids, dinners with the family (while working), groceries should all be paid for by the parents. If you want to give a $20 allowance for food, discuss with your nanny.
