Sleep Training Infants and Toddlers

Finally, my baby can start sleeping through the night

For every new parent, there’s one day to look forward to with excitement and anticipation – the day their new arrival finally sleeps through the night without interruption. But getting there can often seem impossible; there are hundreds of books touting different sleep training methods on the market, and discouragingly, many of them strongly suggest that if you miss the ‘magic window’ for sleep training – usually said to be between age 3-4 months – you’ll never be able to get your child sleeping soundly through the night.

We Sleep Train infants starting at 3 months – toddlers

At Night Owl Nanny Care, we know that’s simply not the case. Any child can be successfully sleep trained, even toddlers. While it’s true that you can often begin sleep training around the three-month mark (and get into good habits that will make sleep training easier), all is not lost if you’re lagging behind a little with getting into the sleep training groove.

Sleep Training is individualized to your family

Another common misperception? That sleep training is cruel! The truth is, there is a lot more to sleep training than letting your baby ‘cry it out’ for hours on end, and there’s no need to torture anyone in the family to get your baby or toddler sleeping soundly. Our sleep training Denver specialists are always available to help, whether that’s providing you with an in-home consultation and personalized plan for sleep training, or staying overnight with your child to do the sleep training themselves.

With support and guidance from our sleep training specialists, soon everyone in the family will be enjoying a full night’s sleep – and no doubt, a better mood in the morning!

Sleep Training – When to start

When to start Sleep Training your infant

We have 3 requirements when starting a sleep training. First, you need to be mentally prepared and ready to stick with a few simple adjustments. Mom, Dad, grandma, and nanny all need to be on board to have a successful training. Ready? Check that your baby meets these 3 requirements and lets start sleeping.

Weight

Your baby needs to weigh at least 10-12 pounds. We want to make sure they are healthy with weight gain to cut off night feedings.

Feedings

24-32 ounces in a day is required to start the process. If they have one night feeding that equals 30 ounces total for their 24 hour period, then we can get started. We want to conclude baby is eating enough in the day to cut feedings at night.

 Age

Your baby needs to be at least 3 months old adjusted.

Does your baby meet these requirements? Call to get started. We Sleep Train worldwide.

Sleep Training does not mean ” Cry it out”

Sleep Training Introduction

What does Sleep Training mean?

Sleep Training simply means we educate the family and help the infant sleep through the night. We have different methods, nursery techniques, and bed time routine suggestions to make sleeping easier on everyone. Every training is specific to your families needs. We don’t train off one Sleep Training method. We specialize and cater to what your infant and family need.

Is there crying involved?

Babies cry, its 100% normal. Its their way of communicating. Does your training have to involve crying? No, not at all. We see quicker results with a little bit of crying, but we can train without any tears.

My baby doesn’t nap in the daytime, does my Sleep Trainer help with daytime naps?

Absolutely. Your daytime schedule is just as important as your night time schedule. We assess all aspects of routine, schedule, nursery and families wishes.

What can I expect when they come to my home?

They arrive one hour before bedtime. Meet baby, walk through the process, tweak accordingly, monitor bedtime routine, you go to bed and the magic begins. 3 nights is usually all we need.

When to start Sleep Training an Infant

Age

Infant Sleep Training can start as early as 3 months. Twins and Preemies will usually need to wait a couple weeks or months after 3 month marker. Your Sleep Trainer can give you a better idea once they go over gestational age.

Weight

Babies weight needs to be 10-12 pounds, at least. Some babies reach this weight quickly and easily, while other infants are little guys. All very common and nothing to stress about. Your baby will gain weight in time, no rush.  Formula can be more filling and help pack on those extra pounds. No pressure to start using formula, just an option for parents if they are trying to get longer stretches and pack on a few extra pounds. If you’re worried about your babies weight, please chat with your physician.

Ounces per day

24-32 ounces per day is mandatory to start training. If they are not up to 24 ounces (including a dreamfeed) a day, they still need to be fed at night.

Patience is a key component when it comes to Sleep Training requirements. All babies grow and develop at different rates. Its very common for a 3 month old to not weigh or eat the required amount, to start sleep training. Be patient with your baby as they develop into the next milestone.

The Sleep Fairy

What is a Sleep Fairy?

A Sleep Fairy comes to your home and helps your toddler(s) or infant(s) sleep through the night. She educates the family on the sleep training process. Your sleep fairy will guide your tiny ones through the night and set them up for sleep success for life. If you have sleep regression, (which you will until kiddos are 4) you will have access to your sleep fairy for life via text, email or phone calls.

How does it work?

Your Sleep Fairy has an initial evening visit to assess the nursery, bed time routine and daytime/nap routine. She will meet the toddler and make sure they are all set for sleep success in their room. Infants get to know their sleep trainer a bit in this visit, this will prevent “stranger danger”. She will then arrive between 6pm-11pm (8 hour minimum) to start the magic. She will ease and guide your infant or toddler through the night and teach your babies how to self soothe. This process tends to be 3-14 nights. Depending on the family and situation, it may take longer.

Why are mornings so exciting for toddlers?

Toddlers are great at negotiating. Always needing one more hug, or a drink before they can sleep. How do we keep toddlers enticed to stay in bed? We bribe them. Whether its a balloon or two pieces of bacon in the morning, they will be very excited to see what The Sleep Fairy has left for them. The small prizes are only to get them started and excited about sleeping in their own bed all night.

How did the name ‘Sleep Fairy’ start?

Miss Cecile the Sleep Fairy helped a family get their toddler to sleep in his own room and stop coming into mommy and daddys room. This process was a quick 3 days. Miss Cecile The Sleep Fairy called and checked in with the toddler and the parents a few times within the next couple of weeks. If the parents had sleep regression they would “threaten” to call Miss Cecile. Miss Cecile was very much liked by the toddler and he did not want to “upset” her because he knew she meant business.

Do you need help with your infant or toddler? Call, email or text to chat with a sleep specialist today or tonight. We have helped hundreds of families. You will be pleasantly surprised on how quickly you can see results.

3 tips to get your infant sleeping through the night

3 Easy Sleep Training Tips

Is your Infant not sleeping through the night? It can be very hard on a family when you have an infant waking up 2-4 times a night. Mom, dad, siblings and baby all become exhausted and irritated. A lack of sleep affects everyone in the household. Get more sleep for you and your family. These 3 tips can help you and your baby sleep through the night.

Make the nursery dark.

Use black out curtains, and cover all light in the room. Light from windows, underneath the door, humidifier light, monitor light, firearm light, cover it with a piece of tape. Make the room pitch black.
If you need to go into the nursery at night, use a red light. Less stimulating for an infant. This creates a womb like feel for the baby, and creates a sleep environment that won’t simulate baby if they wake in middle of night. Sleep training a child is hard, blacking out the room will make it easier for baby to continue sleeping.

White noise machine

When sleep training an infant a white noise machine on ocean or rain can be very helpful. You want the waves noises to be loud. You want it to drown out any noise going on outside the nursery room. Make sure to cover the lights on white noise machine.

Bedtime routine

Sleep training success doubles when creating a bedtime routine. Make a bedtime routine of 7 things/ habits. Examples: Change diaper, sing a song, lavender lotion, read books, pajamas, etc. 7 things you want to do before baby goes to sleep for the night. Start night time routine 30 minutes prior to bedtime every night.
