Having a new baby is a blessing, but a very exhausting. The one problem new moms suffer from after coming out of the delivery room is catching a good nights rest, without any interruptions. While most moms with newborn babies think they can do it all, lack of sleep is detrimental to a woman recovering after giving birth.
Now, there is a solution, they’re called night nannies. These professional ladies will help you manage your babies at night so that you can sleep well and bond as needed with your baby during the day.
What is a night nanny?
Night nannies, maternity nurses, or baby whisperer; are women that help care for your baby throughout the night while you enjoy some recovery sleep.
Their responsibility centers on taking care of the baby, feeding them, changing the diaper, hushing them to sleep, and keeping them calm all night till the morning.
It is a full day’s job for a night you might say; however, for mothers that intend to use this service to care for their baby, caution is the keyword when looking for the right night nanny to care for your precious loved ones.
5 tips to ease the stress of searching for the right night nanny
Ask, Ask and Ask some more
Your baby is very precious, and leaving them in the hands of a stranger just to catch sleep is not worth it if the wrong choice is made.
Therefore, ask around, ask friends that have tried it, join parenting community online or seek information at a hospital or childcare center about night nannies and if there is a recommended group, society or person that can suitably fit into your home and in your baby’s life.
Check how much experience the night nanny has?
While some programs and establishments provide certifications for learning how to be a night nanny, it is an extra positive to have one that has worked with children (a nurse is even better), a mother (a great option). These two criteria are added values that will enable you to make the right choice.
Has some form of child’s health knowledge
Babies are unpredictable, a sound and healthy baby can go from playful to running a temperature. If you are looking to hire a night nurse, she must have some knowledge of child health, especially how to perform CPR, basic first-aid treatment and when to dial 911 for help.
Compassionate and stamina
Caring for newborns is exhausting- waking up during your sleep can be mentally draining and overwhelming, hence your night nanny should have the stamina to keep up with your baby’s habits.
So if you have a fussy baby, your night nanny must be compassionate with enough positive energy that will calm your baby and put your mind at rest.
We’ve got you covered
Do you need a night nanny but don’t know where or how to start? Well, don’t worry, we have you covered. When you come to us for a night nanny for your newborn, we will provide you with all the background and reference information to you for the night nanny of your choice.
Furthermore, all the nannies on our team have an excellent track record with an experience of more than three years caring for babies as night nannies.
You have a few options when breastfeeding and having a night nanny. Your Night Nanny will bring in your baby when its time to feed, or have you come to the nursery to breastfeed. Ever family has a different plan that works for them. We cater to your needs. Our main goal during that time is to get you your much needed rest and care for your baby.
What does my Night Nanny do while I breastfeed?
Your night nanny can fix you a snack, make you tea, fill your water, support with breastfeeding, finish baby laundry. They can chat or be quiet. You and your Doula or Newborn Care Specialist will become very close and establish a routine that gets you back to sleep quickly.
Can I pump?
Of course. We will have clean and sterilized pump equipment outside your door. When you have finished pumping, place it outside the door. Your Night Nanny will feed baby or place it in your fridge. They will clean pump equipment, and have it outside your door for the next pump.
If there’s one thing that’s almost as synonymous with new babies as excitement and joy, it’s sleep deprivation – it’s not uncommon for newborns to wake up needing a feed, diaper change, and cuddles every three hours or so during the night. After the marathon of pregnancy and labor, the first few weeks with a new baby at home can be exhausting and highly emotional for new mothers, and stressful for new dads.
Why Night Nannies are needed more
With more and more new families living away from traditional helpers like grandparents and extended family, a night nanny can help get your new family off to a healthy start. Our night nannies can support you with breastfeeding (or bottle feeding for you while you sleep through the night), changing diapers, swaddling and settling your baby. They will also quietly do essential chores around the house like washing, folding and putting away your infant’s laundry, washing and sterilizing bottles/pumping equipment, taking out smelly diaper pails, and even helping you with your baby’s first baths.
